Open Letter to the A-hole in the Red Subaru

Today on our regular lunch ride (which commences every single day at about the same time) we had a run in with a car at an intersection that had a 4 ways stop. They were turning right and we were going straight. The car could not have been behind us for more than one block and I have to say this is the first time a car has been behind us on this residential street in MONTHS. Did I mention we ride this street every day at the same time?

The nice lady in the passenger seat yelled at us as we were riding through the intersection and she was turning "why don't you ride single file like you are supposed to!"

Well my dear short tempered Subaru passenger, I do apologize for making you have to stop one millisecond before your right hand turn but Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 484.509 (2) states:

NRS 484.509 Operating bicycle on roadway.
2. Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than two [emphasis added] abreast except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles.

Be-yatch!

Sandie- I commend you for your professionalism in this regard. As you heard my response was far from appropriate and in the end, I would be the one who needed to apologize to her, if she did actually hear me call her a fat ass beay atch, who even if she was the last living woman on the planet, I would not allow to come within 10 feet of me.

We never get to have an exchange with those drive-by, yelling jerks. They make their comments and drive away like chicken shits. They feel safe to criticize without repercussions because they are in the safety of their cars. They would never say crap like that in the line at the post office or bank. If we are face to face with other people, we give each other more respect -- we treat them much better. This is another example of how people turn into asses when they drive their cars.

I don't know about giving each other respect in face-to-face situations. Completely ignoring your fellow citizens isn't all that respectful.

It's a bummer. Driving makes people unpleasant. Start with an unpleasant person and the wheel just makes the problem worse.

The less I drive the more I believe that this kind of incident really has nothing to do with bikes.

I'm going to download a copy of the NRS that Bicycle Nevada has for download on my mobile phone.

When in situations like that,I put into practice the quote from a very famous man,"turn the other cheek."-
Michael Jackson

Yes, but it was Jermaine Jackson who said,

"Honey words cannot express
The sensation that I get
It's a quiverin tremblin feelin
Make me wiggle
It makes me shake
When I think about us
I get all keyed up"

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything, but it's almost tights weather. And that's sexy indeed.

Yelling from a moving car is like commenting anonymously on an internet forum. People seem to be at their worst in these situations. Which is a funny thing in small town Carson City. People tend to follow the same patterns everyday. You will see that person again.

Maybe there is a kinder, gentler solution.

Just re-title the open letter and make it out to "all vehicular operating @$$holes". Don't want to make the SUV drivers feel left out!
And use the "I'm rubber and your glue" thing on them next time too; they love it when you talk back.

I was going to post some comment about what a silly woman you are for actually expecting motorists to possess even the slightest knowledge of the law, but then I saw Jeff quoting Jermaine Jackson. Now, I'm too deeply disturbed to focus on my original idea. :)

There's no better retribution than a good MOONING! Be ready with the trou-drop next time you see that car...

Well, all this musical refrence made me think about how all we need is peace. like that song Ebony and Ivory, live together in perfect, harmony... but I couldnt think of a catchy jingle that included "white trash whore, and awsome cyclists, live together in perfect yada yada da da.."

Unreal. I love when people get lippy and make a complete ass of themselves.
