1st Snow

Today marked the 1st snow day of the season. It was only a dusting, but we were pretty chilled by the time we made it back to work. It started to snow pretty heavily on the way back and caused vertigo in more than one rider..

The Zipper

Today was the first ride on a new trail called The Zipper. It's a super steep series of switchbacks up the north side of C-Hill. Nobody made the entire climb, but there were some amazing efforts. And interestingly enough, Todd crashed about 6 feet into the trail for no apparent reason. We were headed uphill, and the trail was flat and wide. Possible stroke? It's unlikely, but it just seems like the most plausible explanation for what I observed.

Hamburger Hill

On the way up to Hamburger Hill today I was thinking it was silly that we still called it that. It's been months (if not years) since anyone has crashed on it. But then Todd began his descent, going into the beginning much too fast. He disappeared from sight, but I was able to hear some yelling coming from down the hill. Once I got to the edge, I peeked over and saw Todd covered in dirt, and blood was trickling down his arm. I stand corrected...the name Hamburger Hill reamains true.

A Time for Bonding

Patrick and Barbara bonded today. They formed that special bond you get when you don't tell the new girl that we'll be turning right at the next street, and then proceed to make the turn in front of her. It reminded me of a slo-mo instant reply from the Tour de France, and the whole crash lasted about 4 seconds. Barbara's bike was sucked up by Patrick's rear tire, and seemed lift her bike up sideways. This actually scrubbed off quite a bit of speed before they hit the asphalt. Miraculously, both only received minor road rash.

New Rider!

We picked up a new rider this week! Barbara dusted off her titanium LeMond hard tail and hit the trails with us. She had an impressive performance today for not riding for a few years. I predict she will be hard to beat on the uphills when she gets her legs back!

Rim Trail Ride Planned

Todd says, "To celebrate and kick off the season, next Saturday (7/2) I am going to take our standard rim trail ride from the trailhead at the top of Kingsbury grade toward Spooner, and stopping and turning back at the bench near Genoa Peak. I plan to leave the trailhead at about 10:30."

Hope to see people there!

Death March

You ever notice that most death marches start with the phrase, "That looks ridable. Let's go down there…"? We tried riding the gully today thinking that a year after the fire, it may be in decent shape. The last time we rode it there was still smoke coming out of the ground, so it couldn't be worse, huh? Well after a bent brake rotor, a flat tire, and a strained wrist, it became evident that a mistake had been made. We climbed back out of the canyon to the main road and limped back to work…

The Pit

When will these guys stop digging? How much water are they expecting to collect in this pit? The bike path runs across the top of the pit...hopefully nobody falls to their doom!

Deep Snow

We won't be seeing dirt for a few weeks. The bike path doesn't even go all the way through right now...check out the deep snow!
