Travels With Troglodytes

More Trees, Less Bush
Originally uploaded by Facility Bike Club.
I've been thinking of taking the Bush sticker off my car for a while. Mostly because I just don't care anymore. It's also old and faded. I think it's kind of funny, really.

Tonight on the way home though, I had some road rage from a personal friend of W. himself it would seem. Some dude on a two wheeled car without a muffler got behind my car for a bit, and then pulled along side me for a fair amount of time giving me the middle finger. I didn't react. I don't think he even knows for sure if I saw him. What good could come of an altercation at 65 mph anyway? The voice of Sam Kinison initially entered my head, "I hope you slide under a gas truck and taste your own blood!" But I let it go. Who cares what this dunderhead thinks?

I could be jumping to conclusions here, because I have a few stickers on the rear window. It could be possible that that troglodyte on the motor assisted bicycle-like contraption detests Clif Bars. Or perhaps he loathes the Shady Grove Coffee Company. It also entirely possible that the imagery of a cyclist evolving from an ape-like ancestor gets this guys blood pressure boiling. Steaming like an overloaded pressure cooker. Which is kind of ironic if you think about it...the simian man himself has evolved to twist the throttle with his opposable thumb and stomp on the shifter with his foot.

But perhaps I am wrong again. Maybe the anthropoid on the steel horse is actually a billionaire CEO, and depends greatly on Bush's tax cuts for his very survival. And if this is the case, I apologize. Oil Tycoon? Cattle Barron? Again, sorry.

So tonight I'm going to remove the Bush sticker. I just don't want to interact with that world anymore. And like I said...I really don't care anymore. I'll go my way, and he and his minions can go their way, which ever way that is. I just want to ride my bicycle.

that's a good post.

and i get what you're saying about taking the bumper sticker off.

luckily we live in an area where we all have those bumper stickers, so we don't worry too much.

there's a house close to here that has a giant bush in the front yard and it's got a giant circle with a line through it. i laugh every time i see it.

Some people are just haters. Take the sticker off on your terms, not theirs.

Aren't you the one who told me the joke about the vaccuum and the Harley?

There is a chick with a personalized license plate here that says MPEACHW. Some one from the American Nazi (rethugulan) party bitched and it ALMOST got recalled - but didn't. I just laughed.

I've actually gotten some good comments from the sticker too. One ex Navy guy actually pulled up alongside me and thanked me for displaying the sticker. But there are a lot of jingos in this area that kind of ruin the vibe.

I'd love to see a picture of that bush, Lauren!

The sticker is still on this morning. It's going to take some work on the weekend to get it off.

The vacuum joke was told my friend Scott in the comments here.

I'm surprised MPEACHW made it through the DMV! Must've been a slow person on the counter that day.

Careful, Jeff...

Maybe I just have a dirty mind.

Whoa...did I write that? Whoops. I'll rephrase that.

A photograph of the aforementioned hedge would be most desirable.

Messages of hate just create more hate. If it was the bumper sticker that ticked the guy off, his reaction did nothing but create more negativity. I have not opened a history book that has shown me that an attitude of hate has had any positive result on an individual or a nation. It is the opposite that gets meaninful results. Hate is just a reflection of the things about yourself that you dont like.

I could type so much about this stuff...

More Trees, Less Bush is hardly a message of hate. I'm speaking for living things that have no voice. Things that I love and depend on. It's unfortunate that environmentalism has been associated with extremism. Everyone benefits from clean air and water, biodiversity, healthy forests, etc. To believe that one can't love the planet due to their political beliefs is to succumb to the trickery of politicians.

Anyone unfamiliar with the Bush Administration's plundering of the environment needs to read Crimes Against Nature. You will be shocked within the first 5 minutes of reading the book! You will be amazed at what goes on outside the public eye.

You are correct though, in that bumper stickers do not change people's mind about things. I certainly don't spontaneously reject reason when somebody displays an anti Darwin/evolution sticker. And I most certainly don't flip them off if I disagree with their views.

I replaced the Bush sticker with Crank Brothers and Race Face stickers.

Jeff- Your bumper sticker is not a hateful bumper sticker. Sorry if I implied that. I think it is very eloquently put. I think the guy who flipped you off was hateful. You assume it is from your bumper sticker. Whatever the reason, the dudes got problems. He was probably looking for someone to flip off. You may not have been the only one he flipped off that day! He might be on his way to Sacramento today and if he does it there his ass might get shot and it won't even make the newspapers. I am glad you advertise how you feel. You have guts. It is a sign of strength. I would keep the sticker. I have seen others that are just plain foolish, that are hateful. That both sides of the political spectrum put out. Those stickers and the attitudes that come with them get us nowhere. It is solutions and positve action that get us somewhere. More trees is a solution. So that Kook, if it was your sticker that angered him. probably felt good about himself for about 2 minutes. Eventually, his own negativity will eat him alive. Hey, lets start another Blog " Facility Political Action Club!"

i bet it was the clif bars.

You know, you could be right. The Clif Bar sticker says, "Start Global Cooling". I got it from Minus Car. Global Warming...another heated debate...

Still like I said, it could be the Coffee Sticker. SG sells organic, fair trade, shade grown coffee. I bet this pisses some people off too...esp. the Folgers crowd.

Also...no offense against motorcyclists. I was just pissed at this guy. I used to ride cycles myself...

hey, i've got one of those stickers from last year's death ride. put it on my mini, post-ride beer cooler.

You mean to tell me that cutting down trees in national forests wasn't really to save them from fire? I can't wrap my head around this.

Or maybe you just cut the guy off without knowing it or insulted his manhood in some other way.

I've had folks chase me down just to flip me off (or worse) on more than one occasion. Maybe it's just my Howdy Doody good looks.

You're removing your left wing bumper stickers? Wow! Losing Barbara from the daily riding group has affected you more than I thought.
