Woo Hoo! The Flume Trail will be opening this weekend! Usually the opening weekend isn't until June, so that says a lot about the amount of snow we received this winter.
I'd like to come out and ride it. I've lived in Berkeley for over ten years and still haven't done it. I've hit Downieville lots of times, but Toad's Wild Ride, The Flume and NorthStar are on my list for this summer. Thanks for the tip that the snow is that far gone.
Smudgemo - There is way more than just the Flume Trail there...there's a whole trail network that you can make some nice loops out of. Any section of the Tahoe Rim Trail that allows bikes is a must too. Check out "Hole in the Ground" near Boreal Ski Area. It's not too far from North Star. Thanks for the comment, I've added a link to your blog!
I just love the mountains in summer. My friends and I discussed a quick trip up to do Hole in the Ground last fall, but for some reason it didn't happen. I suspect we'll be there this year at least once. I'm just psyched that NorthStar will be open this summer. I bought a 6" bike before last summer, and never got to use it on anything big. I aim to change that this year.

I've seen this trail in a few magazines over the years. Maybe someday I'll be able to ride it myself. Yes, I'm jealous.
omg! i love that trail!
one of my all time favs!
and one more exclamation point for how much fun that trail is!
That trail's on my wish list. In 1996, I interviewed for a job in Reno. The only reason I considered it was proximity to rides like the Flume Trail.
It's one of my favorite places in the area, and just minutes from my house. Come out and ride it with us!
